ARCHITECTURE

This project translates the heavy, monumental language of Soviet-era architecture into a light and modern urban landmark. The design is deeply rooted in its context, drawing direct inspiration from the historic Soviet buildings that define the surrounding area. By taking the traditional monumental arch—a hallmark of the local architectural heritage—and reimagining it through a contemporary lens, the building creates a bridge between the city’s past and its future.

CONCEPT

The concept for this project is a modern reinterpretation of Soviet monumentalism, specifically designed to bridge the gap between historical weight and contemporary lightness. As a competition-winning design for Expo Georgia, the architecture takes the iconic round arch—a defining feature of the surrounding Soviet-era buildings—and translates it into a functional, ground floor that invites the city inside.

FACADE DETAILS

The façade is defined by a rhythmic series of slender, rounded arches at the ground level, which open the building to the street and create an inviting to public. Above this base, the arch motif evolves into a precise, grid-like system of square windows and curved corner glazing, that gives the building its sense of scale and permanence. With clean lines and integrated green terraces, the project honors the site’s architectural heritage while creating a transparent, future-oriented landmark for Tbilisi’s urban fabric.

3D MODEL

This axonometric 3D model provides a comprehensive overview of the urban masterplan, showcasing how the new architectural volumes integrate with the existing city fabric. The model highlights a hierarchy of scales, ranging from mid-rise perimeter blocks to a dominant vertical tower, all unified by a consistent architectural language of monumental arches and rhythmic grids, that draw pedestrians from the surrounding streets into a vibrant, communal green core.
